DOI checker

Paste the bibliography of your paper. For every DOI we find, we check that it exists and that the author, year and title match what you wrote. Free, no sign-up.

Your text never leaves your browser: only the DOIs are sent to Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex and doi.org. Nothing is stored.

The checker points out problems. EZScite fixes them.

Add each reference by its DOI and EZScite writes the bibliography for you in APA, Vancouver, ABNT and over ten other styles — right inside Word.

    How it works

    1. 1We find the DOIs in the text: doi.org links, "doi:" or bare DOIs.
    2. 2Your browser looks each DOI up in Crossref and DataCite and asks doi.org whether it is registered.
    3. 3We compare the year, the surname of the first author and the title with what you wrote.
    • Confirmed — the DOI exists and what we could compare matches.
    • Retracted — the DOI exists, but the article has been retracted (Retraction Watch via Crossref, or OpenAlex). Read the notice before citing it.
    • Mismatch — the DOI exists, but the year, the first author or the title does not match. It is the most useful result: it catches the DOI copied from the wrong reference.
    • DOI exists, not compared — doi.org confirms the DOI, but there is no record we can compare with.
    • DOI does not resolve — doi.org does not know the DOI. The work may exist with a mistyped DOI.
    • No DOI — not checked — the reference has no DOI and is not checked. This is normal.
    • Not checked (connection) — a database could not be reached; you can try again.

Only DOIs are checked. References without a DOI — books, laws, theses and many journals from Latin America and Africa — are not checked, and that does not make them wrong.
